Mr Norton has been an Orthopaedic Consultant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital since December 2002 and has a particular interest and experience in hip preserving, resurfacing, replacement and revision surgery.

This includes the management of the younger adults with FAI (femoro-acetabular impingement) or Hip Impingement Syndrome using a spectrum of non-operative advice, hip arthroscopy, minimal access surgery and open surgery to reshape and repair the damaged hip joint.

He performs most of the hip arthroscopy and minimal access hip preserving surgery for hip impingement in Cornwall.

This involves a keyhole type procedure to try to deal with some of the damage which has been caused by hip impingement.

He performs hip resurfacing and total hip replacement for hips that are not able to be preserved.

He advocates the blood supply preserving trochanteric flip surgical approach for hip resurfacing aimed at maximising the possible life span of hip resurfacing in younger high demand patients although he also uses the standard posterior approach method of hip resurfacing for appropriate cases.

He has been profiled in Cornwall Today August 2008 magazine with reference to hip resurfacing.
