Mr Williams qualified from University of Wales College of Medicine in 1998. His basic surgical training included time in Australia, South Africa and Weston-super-Mare before becoming a registrar here in the South West of England. He underwent sub-specialty fellowships in trauma, complex knee and hip replacement surgery in Seattle, Oxford and Vancouver.

A Master's degree in Orthopaedics Engineering at the University of Cardiff provided a basic science foundation upon which he’s built a strong research portfolio. Published work has looked at hip resurfacing (and the recent problems with metal ions), clinical outcomes following joint replacement (with an emphasis on returning to sporting activity) and techniques of revision hip and knee surgery.

Mr Williams currently works at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and the Duchy Hospital, Truro, where he joins the Cornwall Hip Clinic and Cornwall Hip Foundation, providing a hip and knee replacement and revision service.

Since joining the team, he was keen to bring his research experience into day-to-day practice; to quantify and capture the impact of surgery on patients and to track these benefits into the long-term. Finding nothing appropriate available, he sought to develop the myClinicalOutcomes website. A free resource to NHS surgeons and patients, www.myClinicalOutcomes.co.uk enables remote monitoring of patient symptoms over time, before and after treatment and into the long term.
